With the middle school season starting in less than two weeks, I want to get a debate going about local middle school teams. This should be an exciting season with new teams (i.e. Alton) added to the frey, with some teams having new coaches (i.e. Edwardsville Lincoln and I think Granite City Coolidge), you have teams that lost alot of solid wrestlers (i.e. Triad, Collinsville, and Edwardsville Liberty), and you have traditional powers in the area (i.e. Granite City Grigsby). Did Collinsville and Triad finally let 6th graders wrestle on thier middle school teams, which plauge these teams with forfeits last year? Is O"Fallon Fulton still an IESA affilated team or did they switch over to IKWF? Who are some of the tougher guys to watch this season (i.e. Greggerson for Grigsby)?

I was at Triad vs. Litchfield, Triad's team was 3 times the numbers as last year. They had enough to supply most the Litchfield team with 2 matches.

Sorry don't know the score, I'm sure Triad won pretty big. Litchfield's numbers are down this year. Triad has a good team, but I don't remember the weights or names of the kids that were exceptional, I think the 100pounder was a buff little kid and much improved on his technique from last year. The Graumenz kid was at 84.

How many middle schools in Southern Illinois have school sponsored wrestling teams? I have approached our middle school in Mt. Vernon about starting one & they seemed totally disinterested. Our IKWF club gets very few kids from the city schools. Almost all of our kids come from the small county schools. The Mt. Veron district 80 admins seemed to think that middle school wrestling was something that just doesn't exist in Southern Illinois outside of IKWF Clubs. I'm pretty sure there are several in the Metro East area

In Southern Illinois it exists for the most part IN ADDITION to IKWF with most of the middle school teams NOT being linked to the IESA. Central Illinois has a LOT of the strictly IESA teams. Either way does build the high school team. If you have many kids just getting started then sometimes IESA is very beneficial. IF you have a lot of studs in your IKWF club, they probably wouldn't be satisfied wrestling for an IESA middle school team, but Edwardsville, Triad, Bethalto, and Granite City, and many more schools have middle school teams that are free to participate in both.

I think their are 16 Middle / Junior high school teams in the SOUTH . Their are over 30 IKWF teams.
