After a dismal showing at "The Holy Wars" where St. Rita forfeited 4 weight classes and lost to both Providence and Montini, the 5th ranked Mustangs got back on track this week. After dispatching Marist 42-18 on Thursday, St. Rita went north to the Libertyville quad on Saturday.
First up was the 8th ranked Oak Park-River Forest, undefeated, but missing three starters. In an interesting move, defending state champ Jerome Ward wrestled up at 285lbs against Peter Kowalczuk. Ward was able to use his athletic ability to out maneuver Kowalczuk and won the match 7-3. Riley and Scardina followed with major wins at 103 and 119lbs for St. Rita. In a tough match-up at 125lbs, Majka pinned Lillashawn Coleman from OPRF. Brad Bolen, back in the line-up after being sidelined for a month from a back injury, got a much needed win for the Huskies at 130lbs with a 9-3 decision over Migawa. Oak Park-River Forest proceeded to win 3 out of the next 4 matches, but lost a key match-up when Zimmerman wrestled up at 140lbs and defeated Rogers 9-1. After the 152lbs match, St. Rita was up 22-16. The Mustangs reeled-off 4 straight wins, getting a tech-fall from White at 160lbs, a pin by Osborne at 171, and a major decision from Brandt at 215lbs, and winning the dual by a 40-16 final.
St. Rita continued their success on the day by beating Barrington 49-8 and Libertyville 49-13. After the loss to St. Rita, OPRF bounced back with a 38-24 win over Barrington, and then defeated Libertyville 46-15, to go 2-1 on the day. Libertyville beat Barrington by a narrow 31-30 margin. Barrington was shorthanded, missing Sesso at 160lbs, and Libertyville forfeited 112lbs.
