what does everyone think?
how many placers can the south produce?
any predictions before regional time...
i belive that we will have
103-Surber
119-Thomas
130-Lowe and Williams
160-Perez(will he take it to another level unlike years past?)
171-Treat/Grant(with a lucky draw one of them could do it since 171 is rather weak)
189-Penny

215 is loaded at state, but I think Martin Smith may have an outside shot. Beasley also has a chance at 135.

As a "SouthernGrapplingFan," you should also know that Class A will produce several possible placers. Just kiddin'. Best bets for Class A are as follows:
103- Miller/Murphy, Eller/Vandalia
112- Brown/Tolono, Davidson/Litch
119- Holliday/Herrin, Swanson/Effingham
130- Aa. Phemister/WF
135- Wilson/Benton
140- Sherrick/Cumberland
145- Kesler/Herrin
152- Smith/Vandalia, Colp/Herrin
160- Daly/Tolono
215- Kruse/Cumberland
285- McLaughlin/Murphy, Morgan/Hburg

Wouldn't you also believe that Straub has a chance too at 135?

I see 12 wrestlers that have enough of a chance to put the target on their back. Some of these I think are in contention for top 4 (Surber, Lowe, Williams & Penny) others will need to raise the level of their game or get the right draw. I don't know that both of our 135 pounders place, depending on who wins the sectional, I think one of them may be able to. I also see Treat winning sectionals at 171, and this will put him in great shape to place.
Surber 103 - Great chance
Thomas 119 - With a good draw should place
Regan 125 - Has a chance strength of schedule may be his achilles heel.
Lowe 130 - Great Chance
Williams 130 - Great Chance
Straub 135 - Needs to win Sectional, With a good draw should place
Beasley 135 - Needs to win Sectional, With a good draw should place
Reed 145 - Maybe with a good draw, GC's strong schedule will help
Reid 152 - Maybe with a good draw
Treat 171 - Reasonable chance due to Edwardsville's strength of schedule
Grant 171 - Depends on draw
Penny 189 - Great chance

With a strong sectional I think Ryan Robinson (Coll.) will have a chance at 189....also Andy Springer (Coll.) may be a wild-card at 275 (although lack of varsity level wrestling may prove detrimental)

I think Ryan is a fantastic wrestler and works as hard as anybody during the season and all summer, so I debated whether he should be on that list, but two things ruled against him in my analysis. 1) 189 is loaded this year, maybe one of the deepest weightclasses in the state, and 2) Collinsville's schedule is not as tough as is could (should?) be. I hope I'm wrong, and he gets on the medal stand.

Yeah I was also thinking Straub. I wasn't sure if he was really down at 135 or if that was just a rumor.

I don't think that it really depends on the draw with Grant...I would say it all depends on him...I was there both times when he wrestled Robinson and he was a completely different wrestler when he wrestled him the 2nd time. And you saw the outcome there. The first time he was much more dominant. And if he wrestles at state like he did the first time he did against Robinson he has one of the best chances to place from down south.

I think Jim Perez should have a strong possibility of placing. He should win sectionals and come out with good position to medal.
