So at the end of the state tournament did they go find all the coaches and shake hands? I am ok with them not shaking hands at a dual because you do it at the end, but it should be done in a tournament.

GN
It used to bother me that Glenbard and Providence were two schools whose wrestlers do not shake hands with the opposing coaches. I don't even notice it anymore. Whatever people have against GN, I do not know of another school that has as many former wrestlers out there coaching the team.

I gotta be honest, I don't get the GBN hatred thing. Maybe I'm just feeling sentimental, seeing as they just beat the dog tar out of my team tonight, but I've never thought anything ill against their program. When I was in high school, Mark Hahn welcomed me into their off-season program and never treated me like an outsider. I learned more from him and Chris Edwards in three months than I did in 4 years of high school in my own room.
We had an incredibly rough day, having to start 6 JV kids, having 3 sectional qualifiers out and with Cory Pych missing weight by .1, I thought about running my head into a wall before the meet started. I did notice that GBN had quite a few of their JV guys in the line-up tonight, something that I appreciated. They went out and dominated us and won with dignity and class.
They are the best program in the state. Year in and year out, they are always good and always have they're guys in top shape.
I have nothing but respect for Coach Hahn and staff and i hope the next time we go up against them, we can provide more of a challenge. Good luck this weekend.

1) I heard today that the Glenbard North bus was broken in to. They had IPods and headphones stolen, their clothes pissed on, and ketchup and mustard put all over the bus. I hope they catch the kids responsible for this and prosecute them to the full extent. Rumor has it that they have video of it.
2) At DVC two parents were ejected from the tournament for yelling nasty things to one of the GBN wrestlers..what? Parents yelling at kids.
3) After the 152 finals match the kids to the right of the GBN crowd were swearing and yelling at them for cheering on their teammate. I like the fact that the Stevenson kids and Bartlett kids were supporting their wrestlers that have worked so hard.
4) Refs...two matches one at 132 and 152 the kids that they were wrestling were both hit with stalling calls in the first period and never changed their style of wrestling and were never hit with stalling again. Do the refs hate them too? The call in Murpheys finals match was 100% WRONG! Look at the video of the match and freeze the film. When the ref awards the two pts, look where the kids are. No way its two. The match could have ended up with the same result if it went to overtime, but my money is on Murphey since he scored first and almost cradled Schnieder.
By the way.... what was with Schnieder shooting Murphey with his hands during the introductions
Murphey has had a tough road.
State losses....
Cooper with a record 29-3
Smith 43-0
Schnieder 38-0
Here's hoping he gets it next year.
Good Luck GBN next week at team state, I'll be watching online. After this weekend and feeling the hate towards them I can only imagine what it's like at team state.
I look at GBN like they are the Yankees or the Packers a true love to hate relationship. The infectious enthusiasm, the hair, the array of singlets, the gold dot seems more like a target. Hindsight being 20/20 I am a tad sad that we had no clue who or what Glenbard North was just over four years ago. But live with no regrets and will always remember the honor of Lane.
Max wrestled two GBN kids during his prep career and will most likely see more of them at the next level as they are well taught and the discipline shows. Coming out on top vs Max and of all the plans (believe me I have tried) shortening the bout and narrowing the score was a valiant effort by Brian. Good Luck in his Senior season which will present a whole new predicament for him as it will for all wrestlers. Good Luck on Saturday I hope to make it down to watch.
Thank You Rick Rysso for the wonderful vignette.

As far as shaking hands the rule in our house is a firm handshake with direct eye contact. When it come to shaking the coaches hand it does seem a bit over the top and once at the end of a dual would be sufficient IMHOThe man who is at the peak of his success, and the man who have just failed are in exactly the same position. Each must decide what he will do next.

Schneider hit a legit TD after twice dragging Murphy back in bounds. Don't get me wrong...I think Brian is a stud and given the years/weight classes he could easily be a two time champ vs a two-time runner-up.
As far as GBN as a team is concerned, get past the jealousy. Success always breeds envy and hatred. Montini put up with it for years (tho I have no sympathy for some of thier obnoxious fans), as did Carl Sandburg, and now OPRF. The Panthers have been a model of consistency and if you look at their track record...it speaks for itself. Last year might have been their 1st title, and they might add to it this year, but they have so many Elite 8 appearances and top 4 finishes it's impossible to count. There is a reason why coach Hahn is one of Illinois' best ever.

GBN works their tails off from top to bottom on all levels and they reload every year, they set the standard years ago and it's up everyone else to catch up. Instead of hatrid, coaches and wrestlers should use GBN as an example of how to become dominante and have success year in year out. As a coach for over 15 plus years, I can see that GBN wrestlers are coached the right way, to be dominante in every position on the mat, and that stems from a great coaching staff. GBN is a tight knit family program from their coaches to their wrestlers, that is how it should be!

Please, besides the years battling Montini, GBN had many significant challenges within the DVC and area including the likes of Naperville North in their excellent years, St. Charles, a tough Wheaton North program, and the list goes on. Yes, this year we didn't get stuck in a crappy draw regional wise, but don't try to say that GBN has it easy in getting to state repeatedly. You just come off as a whining child.

[QUOTE=fatternowthanthen;397534]Is someone bitter that Marist didn't make it out because of Sandburg?

Whining child? Really, I'm not complaining about the southside draws, it happens every year for the past 30 years. You kind of get use to it. All I'm saying is that the southside has the top 3 of 5 teams every year and only 1-2 of those teams make it to state. Making the road to state easier for other teams, and the road to the finals easier too.

Top Ten reasons to hate GBN (ok I got bored after 6)
1. They never shake hands.
2. They only win the DVC 14 times in a row, because it's a weak conference.
3. They won't tell us what the gold dot means.
4. They are successful so they must be cheating.
5. They die their hair blond at the end of the year.
6. Their coaches wear cowboy boots.
If that's not reason enough to hate us, come up with the last 4.
