I think saying that 8 people place, is being conservative. 6 placed last year, and their 2 best wrestlers Benoit, and Howell didn't, and that won't happen again. I think both of those guys place top 3. It's going to be a fun season...I'm looking forward to it.
Sandburg did win a match from 160-285 last year. Former Marist great Bill Gore beat Pruitt at the regional and him injury defaulting at state is the reason Pruitt placed. Ill take him over Pruitt or Howell and I'll take Robertson who took 2nd in state over either Benoit

Ethan Benoit and Howell were not their two best wrestlers, you must have forgot about a guy named Duda and how do you know that wont happen again? You were the one saying that Benoit would take top 3 this year and he got teched and pinned in sectionals. You were saying that Howell would place this year and he lost to a guy who weighed 195lbs or less from Plainfield in the wrestlebacks. Duda, Andreotti, Alex Benoit, and Hickey are the only gurantees, they might get 2 more which would make it 6, but no way they get 8. St. Rita set the state record with 8 in 2003 with a great team that won state and getting that many was unexpected. For anyone to say that 8 placers is a conservative is crazy. They will be good, but put me down with Big Vern on the under.

Seriously, I will place $1,000 up and take the under on 8 individual placers. The odds that a team will have all 8 guys stay healthy and not suffer an "unexpected" loss are almost astronomical. I stand by the under for $1,000!

I have said it before, "Be a fan, don't be a meatball!" It's fine to say Marist will be a really good team, probably the best in IL, but 8 placers, NOPE!

Marist people sure talk a lot for a team that hasn't won a state title since 1987, brought home a trophy since 1997 and havn't even won a sectional since 1997 and I cant even think of the last time they had an individual champion. Two years ago they were being hyped as a team who could win it all and lost in the sectional, last year they were being hyped as a team who could win it all and didn't make it out of the regional. Why dont you just let the kids wrestle and see what happens instead of making such outlandish predictions so you dont have people thinking its a dissapointing season if they only come away with 4 or 5 placers
Their last individual champion was Jake Murphy -2004. FYI

They'll make it out, no doubt, and they were the best dual team in the state last year also.

    Matt Sears
    Pete Andreotti
    Benoit Brothers
    Tom Howell
    Josh Hickney
Those are just the wrestlers off the top of my head...6 of those guys are already state placers
That would be quite a feat. Including Pruitt in the mix, step 1 will be getting all of those guys you mentioned into the lineup. Step 2 will be getting them all through the season healthy. Steps 3 and 4 will be getting them all through regionals and sectionals. Step 5 will be placing 8 kids at the toughest tourney in Illinois , the IHSA 3A State Tournament, which will be littered with studs and unlucky draws as always. I don't see anyone "easily" taking 8 kids through those steps.

I respect the achivements of their returning placers, but getting back on the podium is no given for any of them. With the high end talent of thier lineup being bunched in the lower and upper weights I would not be shocked if some of those mentioned were either squeezed out of the lineup or forced to wrestle somewhere other than their most competitive weight.

I'm not a gambling man and with the talent Marist has I wouldn't be surprised if they had 8 placers, but if forced to place a wager either way I would bet against it.

Marist and Sandburg will undoubtedly be the top 2 teams next year but 8 placers for either would be a lot to ask.

In Tiger Woods' prime he was the favorite going into every tournament but taking Tiger over the field for even money would not have been a wise bet. I'd take the field over the Marist 8 at even money.

Add Josh Pruitt - 4th place

Marist won their regional 2 years ago. Lost to Minooka in the dual.
