  • Regional weigh in questionable?

I'm sure I may not have all the facts so if someone else wants to correct me that's fine.

My inderstanding is that at the Lockport Regional yesterday a wreslter was allowed to wrestle even though he showed up 20 minutes after the team had already weighed in.

As we all know teams are supposed to weigh in at the same time and at a specific time.

After he "missed" the weigh in he was allowed to wrestle after a coaches vote. I believe 2 coaches voted against it?

I'm assuming there are specific rules on this? This wrestler advanced to Sectionals.

Meaning somone who did weigh in time was replaced.

    Any thoughts?

It isn't the first time it wont be the last. It happened with a team at State a few years back. I for one am glad he wrestled (don't know who it was and I wasn't there). The chances are it was out of this teenagers control to be on time, yes it is his responsibility but I'd guess, not in his control. Why take the opportunity away from him if he possibly had no way of getting where he needed to go. JMO and I can certainly see the other side of the coin 'rules are rules', 'open a can of worms' and/or 'someone got screwed who follwed the rules'. It's a tough decision but at the end of the day this kids life could have changed for the better cause of the decision adults made.

My guess is the rule is in place to make sure everyone makes weight at the same time, otherwise you "blow" weight.

Personally I think there are few excuses for being 20 minutes late for a regional weigh in. You should be an hour early if anything, and with cell phones you can't tell me he couldn't catch a ride. By the way he wrestled for the school hosting the tournament so he couldn't be to far away.

Maybe he needed more time shed a few extra pounds? Not sure but there should not be any exceptions, I know of another wrestler who blew weight when he weighed in on time.

By the way maybe you could change the wrestlers life by showing him he should be on time for weigh ins, school, work, set an example and accountability.

Here are the facts and they are indisputable.

Weigh-in's were at 7:30 SHARP. LWC's entire team entered the weigh-in area at 7:35. They were late. Bloom didn't even get to the school until 8:45. They were late as well.

The wrestler that was late that Rebel speaks of did not miss weigh-ins due to a weight-related issue.

Coaches talked about the issue with Shane Morgan and amongst themselves. Shane Morgan discussed the issue with Craig Anderson and he made the call.

How do you punish an individual when two entire teams broke the same rules? Do you throw both teams out? I felt the situation was handled correctly.

Now that I hear the whole story... I stick to my opinion even more. I do agree there should be a penalty, maybe no points in the team race or something but How productive is it for the sport if an adult decides to toss 2 teams and an individual and then claim "This is for the kids"? I don't think you'd be happy if your boss fired you for being late one time (late is late whether you call or not). Again JMO Rebel, you are the one who asked for thoughts.

Oh BTW Rebel, you can teach a human being right from wrong without Punishing them.

As I mentioned I didn't have all the facts before and now I have them. I seriously do not understand how anyone can be late to a tournament.
That includes the teams! What the heck were the coaches thinking or more importantly doing not to get them there on time.

So we have numerous teams that show up on time, and 2 don't? One wrestler that shows up late.

Thought wrestling was about discipline? No accountability.

Don't punish just the individual but the teams too. What is the rule there in the first place. My guess if someone enforced the rule coaches will make sure their teams show up on time as well as each wrestler.

NEVER been late to a company meeting. Remember when a couple of my fellow workers showed up about an hour late, few months later, gone.

not immediatley? huh, something tells me other things happened there but any who...

So with you its about following rules and not about seeing these kids wrestle?

So you wouldn't be upset if for some reason you caused your son to be late and some official told your son nope you can't wrestle you're irresponsible, go home?

You're being a bit harsh, I want to see full brackets of kids wrestling not auto-berths because a teenager made a mistake.

So your only answer to accountability is to Punish immediatley... your boss didn't punish your fellow co workers immediatley

Are you upset that the team that won the lockport regionals was late also?

Are you sure that was the cause and effect? Also congratulations on NEVER showing up late to a meeting. You probably should get a medal

Son never has been late or missed weight and if either happen I would expect him NOT to wrestle. He knows the consequences.
Kids blow weight should they wrestle?
