Best 1 time Champ!

There is a thread on themat.com about who the best one time champions are. Hands down, in my book that would be Fried. I think he has 5 career losses and all of them to Tom Brands.

I know it has been discussed on here who are the best that didn't win a championship but who are IL. best 1 time champions!?!

Tony Davis Mt. Carmel

Tore his hamstring (I think) his freshman year. Went undefeated and won as a sophmore. Lost in the finals to Reggie Wright his junior year...his first loss in 5-6 years. And didn't wrestle his senior year.

Then went on to win a Juco National title and be in the D-1 finals twice....winning it his senior year.

I remember Rob Sherrill saying of Tony Davis, during his sophmore year, "The only thing that won't be said about Tony, that was said about Joe Williams, is that Joe was a four time state champ. He's that good."

Mark Pustelnik Untied Township. He was somewhat of a legend in the IKWF days. Lost to Geraci senior year.

Why did he not wrestle his sr year in high school?

Sean Bormet

Was the all time wins leader until 2006 with a career record of 184-6.

3rd in 1987
3rd in 1988 (upset and stuck in the semi-finals when he was up by 14)
1st in 1989 (53-0 with 48 falls. One of the most dominant senior years in the history of Illinois High School wrestling.)
