Annual "State of IHSA Wrestling" Interview

Illinois Matmen will be sitting down with IHSA Assistant Executive Director for wrestling Craig Anderson at the individual state tournament this weekend for our annual "State of IHSA Wrestling" interview.

We want to know what you, the Illinois wrestling community, want us to ask?

What about team scoring for the traditional state tournament and sectionals like Iowa does?

Team dual format , ok with reg. Winners but other ranked teams should get at shot, tourney vs dual outcome will be different , example marist vs cs

I agree. The state of Tennessee has team champions in the traditional individual tournament and also for the dual team format. Since the sport is arranged in such a bipolar manner, why is Illinois behind other states? Why do we not return to the popular, traditional tournament with a team champion, as well as the dual team tournament format? It seems as though the dual team tournaments are becoming less popular these days, anyway.

What Flashy said... Why not start bracketing regional champion teams more like they do in football? Seed all regional champions, then create sectional and state match-ups based on the seeding instead of a predetermined format. The higher seed in each sectional could host the sectional dual.

Also, it would be great to have a tournament team championship like they do in Iowa!

And....fix the Byron/Oregon sectional!

I think the weight certification changes are a step in the right direction but need to go a little further. I would like to see a rule that states that if you wrestle at 2 different weights during the season you need to make the lower weight for at least 75% of your weigh ins to go that weight for the state series. I also personally like the 3 weigh ins at state this year. Now you have to hold your weight down until after the semis which is usually a really tough match so if you are cutting alot it could hurt you.
