Passing of Tom Gauger

Legendary St. Laurence coach Tom Gauger has passed away. He was the coach of a future Olympian, State Champion, College AAs and many others who accolades I cant recall. He was a member of the coaching staff of the 1990 Dual Team State Champions. It did nt matter to him if you were elite or just average athlete in the room. He always took time to coach, teach and mentor. He was a great advocate for our sport but more importantly a great man.

Personally, this is heartbreaking news. It's been 30 years since graduating from STL and I have maintained a relationship with Gaugs since. He followed my son's growth in the sport since he began to wrestle. I cherish the fact he got to see Nick wrestle at team sectionals this past season. I will miss him dearly and never forget his influence.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday July 10 from 3pm to 9pm at Thompson & Kuenster Funeral Home (5570 95th St Oak Lawn, IL 60453).

Prayers and heartfelt condolences to family and friends.

I sure have no recollection of the old days at St. Laurence but I've been told many stories by many folks who were there.

A substantial loss.

Rip to Coach Tom Gauger. Family friend and my freestyle/greco coach for so many years. One of the best coaches and people I ever met. Arguably the founder of Illinois greco program. Prayers to his family
