2026–27 IKWF Novice Girls Season Preview
By Illinois Matwomen | November 5, 2026
The first question at 74 pounds belongs to Aubrey Schmieding and Amina Perez. Schmieding opens the season ranked first after reaching the Novice state final last March. Perez opens second, owns three straight IKWF girls state titles, and pinned Schmieding when they wrestled for the 2025 Intermediate championship. If they meet again this winter, the wrestler trying to reverse that result will be the one ranked No. 1.
At 90, two bouts tell two different stories. Brynlee Jones beat Kimberly Sarabia at folkstyle state in March. Sarabia won their freestyle state final in April. And at 102, the field has to solve a problem nobody has solved in a Novice state final for two years running: how to beat Adriana Ragona.
