TWO LINEUPS, ONE TEAM: ILLINOIS MATWOMEN HEAD TO WAR OF THE ROSES
War of the Roses Midwest Nationals | October 3-4, 2026 | Columbus, Indiana
There is a particular kind of excitement that comes with a fall wrestling trip. The school season is approaching, summer training is giving way to live competition, and wrestlers are beginning to discover how much has changed since their last major tournament. Some arrive with established reputations. Others arrive ready to introduce themselves.
For Illinois Matwomen, the trip to the War of the Roses Midwest Nationals brings those stories together. The current K-8 and high school lineups feature state champions, national tournament placewinners, wrestlers who have climbed steadily through Illinois brackets, and athletes looking for the weekend that changes how they see their own potential.
All of them will share the same immediate responsibility: contribute to the team.
At Circle K Fieldhouse at NexusPark in Columbus, Indiana, individual ability will be tested within the larger demands of dual competition. A pin can change the direction of a meet. A close decision can hold a lineup together. A late escape can help decide a bout or prevent an opponent from earning bonus points. Across two days, those moments accumulate until a collection of names becomes a team with an identity.
That is the opportunity waiting for Illinois Matwomen on October 3 and 4.
This preview reflects the updated Illinois Matwomen lineups, with final assignments subject to change. The weights listed below identify those team positions, while earlier accomplishments are identified by the divisions and weights in which they were earned. The order in which matches are wrestled can vary from one dual to another.
This is a roster with experience across several stages of development. Youth state championships, high school postseason medals, freestyle achievements and national dual appearances all offer reasons for optimism. The challenge is to bring the best parts of those experiences into a folkstyle team tournament and respond when an unfamiliar opponent presents something new.
