ILLINOIS MATWOMEN’S TOP 50 IHSA GIRLS POUND-FOR-POUND WRESTLERS
Part 1 of 5: #50-#41
The five-week countdown begins
The first ten names in this countdown include nine returning IHSA state medalists. That is where the Illinois Matwomen Top 50 begins – with wrestlers who have already worked their way onto the state podium, reached championship semifinals and taken on competition beyond Illinois.
Over the next five weeks, Illinois Matwomen will count down the Top 50 girls high school wrestlers in the IHSA, ten athletes at a time. Part 1 opens with #50 through #41, a group featuring six seniors, three juniors and a sophomore whose first high school postseason ended with a state medal.
Pound-for-pound rankings invite a wider conversation than a single weight class or one tournament finish. The IHSA state tournament provides the central reference point here, while freestyle state competition, regional events and national tournaments add to the picture. A fifth- or sixth-place finish deserves attention. So do the opponents beaten along the way, the response to a tournament loss and the results that follow in the spring and summer.
