ROCHESTER, MN • Northern Plains is always a grind, and of the 410 Illinois entrants across the men’s and women’s 16U and Junior Freestyle and Greco-Roman disciplines, 32 percent would place and qualify for the National Championships in Fargo this summer.
By placing at Northern Plains, these wrestlers will have the opportunity to choose their weight at nationals. Also, if these wrestlers have already placed at the IL/USAW State Championships, then their placing in Rochester opens a potential allocation on Team Illinois for another wrestler as each state is guaranteed four spots per weight, and qualifying at a national event frees up a allocation so more in-state wrestlers have the opportunity to qualify.
