Jennings, Deakin Pick Up Ranked Wins Against No. 4 Michigan

By Northwestern Athletics

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Two Northwestern wrestlers picked up wins against top-six opponents on Sunday afternoon in NU’s dual against No. 4 Michigan at Cliff Keen Arena.

No. 16 Conan Jennings (285) got the dual starting off with a bang, knocking off No. 6 Mason Parris with a 7-5 decision. The victory was Jennings’ second this season over the highly-touted Wolverine rookie.

The dual received an added splash of pizazz, as Sebastian Rivera, the top-ranked 125-pounder in the nation, moved up to wrestle Stevan Micic, the top-ranked 133-pound matman in the nation. Micic won via 10-4 decision.

The Wildcats picked up their third win of the dual at 149 pounds as Shayne Oster logged an 8-3 decision over Malik Amine, who is ranked in the top-25 by TrackWrestling.

No. 3 Ryan Deakin (157) utilized an upstart third period to down No. 5 Alec Pantaleo, 11-9. Deakin was on the ropes but took down the two-time All-American three times in the final two minutes to pick up his 22nd win of the season.

Michigan edged out the Wildcats, 30-10.

NU has two duals left in the season, both at home. The Wildcats will host Illinois on Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. CT.
